GOVERNMENT HOUSE,
HONGKONG.
6th September, 1916.
Sir,
I have the honour to state that Mr. Fisher, Inspector in the Sanitary Department, has applied for permission to draw the sterling salary attached to his post in place of his present dollar salary, his reason being that he proposes to draw pension in the Colony, in which event a dollar pension would not carry a privileged rate of exchange. Mr. Fisther is now forty-eight years of age.
2.
I see no objection to the grant of the per -mission asked for. Mr. Fischer's sterling salary in the Colony will be approximately equal to his present dollar emoluments, as he will lose his personal allowance of £360, which attaches only to dollar posts; and, while his sterling pension will be greater than the pension on the dollar salary without compensation, it will be considerably less than the dollar pension at exchange 4/-, to which rate he would be entitled if he retired to England.
I have the honour to be, Sir,
Your most obedient,
humble servant,
THE RIGHT HONOURABLE
ANDREW BONAR LAW, M.P.,
